QUESTION & ANSWE
Question:I had a heart attack ten years ago. I drink 6 to 7 beers a day. Does this have a harmful effect on my cholesterol levels and is it life-threatening?
Aswer: Moderate beer consumption is beneficial as regards prevention of cardiovascular diseases, for instance because the proportion of HDL-cholesterol (the ‘good’ cholesterol) to LDL cholesterol (the ‘bad’ cholesterol) is influenced for the good. The term moderate consumption means 3 to 4 beers a day for men and 2 to 3 for women. Your consumption is considerably higher than that. Up to you to decide whether the extra enjoyment balances the extra risk of another heart attack.
